Why I defected to APC - Ex-Kebbi PDP chair
Former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP0 in Kebbi State Alh. Sani Hukuma Zauro yesterday gave reasons why he dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Zauro who was also former state chairman of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) Board of Trustees told newsmen yesterday in Birnin Kebbi that he dumped PDP due to what he described as “the deliberate inability of governor Saidu Dakingari to honor an accord reached between him and the former governor Adamu Aliero as a prerequisite for Aliero’s camp to dump CPC and join PDP in a deal he said was brokered by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
“Another reason was that some major forces within the PDP were trying at all cost to witch hunt my political godfather, Adamu Aliero with the motive of making Aliero lose political relevance in both Kebbi politics and Nigeria as a whole.
“Before we finally settled for Dakingari as our governorship candidate, a lot happened. “We finally agreed that Dakingari will be selected as the governor under the All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) and in turn we will support Yar Adua under the PDP as president; but Obasanjo persuaded us to join the PDP.
“When we were in CPC Obasanjo brokered another peace accord between Aliero and Dakingari and we defected to PDP on condition of having us registered as PDP members and to share some political offices to our camp.
“But as I speak to you now that has not been fulfilled, I can also recall that Aliero gave the PDP N20 million as assistance to facilitate membership registration of his people into PDP, again, that was not done. They are only bent on humiliating my boss Senator Aliero politically,” he lamented.
The former PDP chieftain had announced his defection to the PDP at the weekend in Birnin Kebbi.
