Why I haven’t left PDP - Maccido

- From Rakiya A.Muhammad, Sokoto

Senator Ahmed Maccido who is representing Sokoto Central Zone at the upper chamber of the National Assembly yesterday opened up on why he refused to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said PDP remains the only national party in Nigeria and that the fortunes of the people of his constituency, Sokoto State and Nigeria are brighter and more guaranteed under the PDP.

Maccido spoke against the backdrop of the recent assertion by former executives of the PDP in the Senatorial zone, who had defected to the APC who accused him of betraying the people of his constituency by not defecting with the governor.

Speaking with journalists yesterday shortly after the completion of his tour of the eight local governments that make up the zone he represents, Maccido said his supporters had advised him against defecting to the APC.

Maccido pointed out:” Doing so is tantamount to betraying the confidence they have reposed in me religiously.”

He described PDP as the only party which faithfully upholds the principles of internal democracy.

Maccido, who is also the chairman, Senate Committee on appropriation, declared: “PDP is the only party with a national outlook, devoid of any ethnic or religious coloration. In PDP, the principles of equity, fairness and internal democracy are sacrosanct.”
