16 clubs register for NTTF’s National Pilot League
Sixteen clubs have so far registered for the maiden Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) National Pilot League, the federation’s Sectary Chinedu Ezealah-Ogundare, said yesterday in Lagos.
Ezealah-Ogundare said in an interview that the clubs from across the country would feature in the event for only male players from March 7 to March 14.
She said that among the registered clubs are Union Bank of Lagos, Civil Defence, Nigeria Police Force, Spring Fresh and Tikom.
Ondo, Ekiti, Rivers, Abia, Delta, Cross River states and the Federal Capital Territory teams have also entered for the tournament, the scribe added.
Ezelah-Ogundare said the competition was an initiative of the federation to identify promising athletes at the grassroots and engage them in competitive tasks.
She added that the spirit of challenge would enable them to wake up to the responsibility of being table tennis players.
“This is one of our many ways of getting to the grassroots for players.
“It is only through this type of competition that we can get to see the best at the grassroots.
“When they feature in this competition, they will be exposed to the task of being a champion because they will meet players from other states,” she said.
The NTTF scribe said that prize money of N1 million had been set aside for the best team, best club and best player.
