Ede in cloud nine over Enyimba progress
Enyimba International FC striker, Ifeanyi Ede is in cloud nine following his team’s progress in the ongoing CAF Champions League competition.
The two times African Champion went down 1-2 against Anges de Notse of Togo but made it to the next stage on 4-3 aggregate having won the first leg 3-1 in Aba.
Meanwhile, champions of the Nigeria Premier League Kano Pillars won 2-1 at home against visiting AS Vita of Congo DR but that was not enough to keep them in the competition having lost the first leg 1-3 in Kinshasha.
Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, the Home-based Super Eagles player said he was so happy with his team’s progress in the Champions League.
He said had Enyimba also crashed out of the champions League, it would have been a disaster and bad commentary on Nigerian football.
Ede congratulated his team mates for doing their best to keep Nigeria in the Champions league despite the unfavourable conditions they faced in Lome.
He averred that having qualified for the next round, Enyimba will tighten their loins and ensure they don’t disappoint Nigerians.
Ede who could not make the trip to Lome due to ill health said he was with the team in spirit and prayed fervently for a favourable result and God did not disappoint him.
“Although I did not travel to Lome on health reasons, I was there in spirit. I am really happy that my team survived the hurdle to move to the next stage of this competition. It was not easy but they did their best.
“It would have been a big disgrace, if we also crashed out the way Pillars did. You can only image what that would have done to the image of Nigerian football.
“I thank God and my team mates who fought gallantly. I have been told it was journey through hell,” he said.
