loading drops by 95 percent – NUPENG
The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has said that loading of fuel in various depots in the country has significantly dropped in the last three days.
The union said that its members who used to load more than 100 trucks daily now hardly load 10 trucks in the depots.
South-western Zone Chairman of the union, Comrade Toknboh Korodo, who revealed this in a chat with our correspondent yesterday, attributed the development to the scarcity of fuel in the depots.
He alleged that the scarcity of product has already forced some marketers adjusted their pump price to accommodate the extra efforts they made in getting fuel from the depot.
He attributed the scarcity of the product to the recent pipeline fire in Ijegun area of Lagos State and the non-availability of first quarter allocation to the marketers.
Meanwhile, the scarcity of the product has continued to be witnessed in Lagos where, yesterday, many filling stations failed to dispense fuel to customers.
Few stations like MRS at Fola Agoro, and Oando stations that dispensed the product were greeted with long queues, which rendered the road impassable.
Some filling stations sold the product above the approved pump price.
But the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has promised to look into the issue.
Its Head of Public Affairs, Bimbo Ogan, told our correspondent that her office monitored the sale of fuel and compliance by the marketers to the approved pump price in filling stations in Lagos.
