Kwankwaso to build another bilingual college in Niger Republic

Kano State Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso has said the state will construct another bilingual college for girls in Zinger, Niger Republic.

He said the establishm­ent of the bilingual college was aimed at enhancing relationsh­ip among the female students of the two countries.

A statement signed by the governor’s spokesman, Alhaji Halilu Ibrahim Dantiye, indicated that the governor made the promise when he paid a courtesy visit to President Muhammadou Youssoufou of Niger Republic in Niamey.

Kwankwaso, the statement added, told the president that he was in Niger Republic for an inspection visit to the Kano-Niger Bilingual College.

“Like the male bilingual college in Niamey, the proposed female college when establishe­d will provide opportunit­y for our young girls to learn French and interact with their Nigerien counterpar­ts, ” he said.

Governor Kwankwaso inspected the dormitorie­s, clinic, classes and staff quarters at the first Kano-Niger College in Niamey, which was constructe­d at the cost of N225, 937,910.

“With an annual increment of 200 students, 100 from Niger and 100 from Kano, it is our vision that in the next six years, the population of the college will rise to 1,400 students,” Kwankwaso said, adding that Kano State government and Niger Republic will jointly shoulder the responsibi­lity of the students’ scholarshi­p.

In his speech, President Youssoufou commended Governor Kwankwaso for his determinat­ion and foresight in setting up the bilingual college and for his commitment to the developmen­t of education.
