Police arrest alleged gay child abuser at Gishiri

- By Ogechi Ohalee

The police in Mabushi division of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, said yesterday that they have arrested a 26-year-old gay child abuser. They alleged that the accused specialised in taking advantage of children below the ages of 8-9.

A police source, said the accused lives in the same compound at Gishiri with 10 children, who he was accused of luring to his bed with fried plantain and fish.

The police source said that all the male children living in that compound loved to be with him until one of the parents decided to find out what made the children so fond of him that they even followed him to his room.

“The parents of one of the children decided to peep through the window and found out that the man gathered the children at his balcony, gave them fish and plantain and then called them two at a time into his room,” he said.

The source said the divisional police officer calmed the parent down and attached a detective to follow her to the house, cautioning her not to raise an alarm until the man is caught in the act, after which he will be arrested.

“But before they got home, neighbours have already caught him when he was on one of the boys. They raised an alarm and a mob gathered, caught him and put a tyre on his neck. He would have been set on fire but for the timely intervention of the police detective.

“The policemen took him to the palace, where their chief also intervened, pleading with the mob,” the source said.

When contacted, the Mabushi Divisional Police Officer, Superintendent Saheed Kazem, confirmed the incident and told our reporter that the accused sexually abused the kids.

The superintendent of police said but for the presence of the police and the palace in Mabushi, the accused would have been lynched.

“The man confessed to have been sexually excited anytime he saw male children and that he didn’t know how to control himself,” he said.

The DPO stated that he has sent the abused children numbering about 10 and the suspect to Maitama General Hospital for proper tests since three of the boys are already infected with veneral diseases.

He advised parents to be vigilant when their children take a liking to people or collect gifts from strangers.

“That test will establish some fact which we shall use to persecute the case and the IPO will be in that hospital until the test results are out so as to charge the case to court before the week runs out,” he said.
