Tears flowed freely on Monday when an 8-month-old baby, James, was accidentally killed by hot water at Masaka in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The baby was said to have died of severe burn sustained from the hot water he mistakenly poured on himself.

City News gathered that the baby crawled out of the house to play with other children in the neighbourhood when the incident happened.

It was believed that the boy clutched a hot water container in the bid to support himself to get up when the hot water fell on him.

The hot water container was kept outside by some neighbours for their own use.

An eyewitness said the baby liked playing with water, adding that he was earlier rescued from injuring himself when he was stopped from playing with hot water inside his mother’s cooking pot.

The mother of the child, while speaking to City News, disclosed that the baby was learning how to walk, adding he liked holding things to support him stand up.

The neighbour, who kept the hot water, said she went inside the house to pick something when she heard the shouts of people, adding she only came to discover that the baby has poured the hot water on himself.

City News further learned that James was rushed to the hospital where he died.

Police in the area said the incident was not reported to them.
