FCT female engineers commended
Indigenous female engineers have been commended for their contributions to the development of engineering in Nigeria.
President of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Engineer Kashim Ali, made the commendation when the Abuja chapter of the Association of Professional Female Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) paid him a courtesy call in Abuja.
Kashim said that APWEN has set the pace in identifying specific engineering problems and documenting them with a view of finding solutions which, according to him, is what COREN has been advocating for in order to ensure engineering development in the country.
He said: “My experience as NSE president has shown that this group is outstanding, both at local and national levels. By identifying problems as they are and documenting them, it makes it easier for solutions to be found. For example, if a bridge failed, you find out what kind of problem is affecting it. You must specify what the problem is. When you said a bridge is bad, you find out what is bad about it. That is the way of engineering.”
He charged the visiting engineers to be abreast of the council`s regulations so as to be always guided in their professional conduct, assuring them of assistance in the area of training.
He presented the team with the council`s register of engineers and code of conducts brochure to assist members in fishing out unregistered and unqualified engineers working on project sites.
Earlier, APWEN, FCT chapter chairperson, Engr. Gladys Nwosah, who led the group, sought the collaboration of COREN in the area of development.
