Emir urges politicians to play politics for national unity
Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris, yesterday urged Nigerian politicians to be cautious of the country’s unity while they strive to consolidate or access power.
Alhaji Idris stated this while briefing newsmen at his palace as part of the Zazzau Emirate’s commemoration of the Emir’s 39 years on the throne.
“Our politicians should understand that politics without bitterness is the best option that will pave way for national growth and development. Politicians should avoid discrimination when they get political positions. It is pertinent to understand that those at the corridor of power are there to serve all Nigerians not a particular party, region, religion or tribe,” the emir said.
He said the 39 years he spent as the Emir of Zazzau recorded huge successes because of the support and cooperation he enjoys from all residents of the emirate.
“Leadership is a collective responsibility. We usually bring people very close to us and the Emirate has a constituted legal and traditional setting that include ward, village and district heads. These categories of traditional institutions are always working very closely with people to ensure peace, unity, brotherliness and rapid development of the society among others.
“I therefore, want to use this opportunity to call on our people to continue to be law abiding. People should also continue to be creative and stop relying on government for employment, as that would help the development of our societies. Parents should also put more efforts on the training of their children for a much better descent society and a sound future generation,” Alhaji Idris said.
