Jonathan donates N50m to supporters’ club

- By Isiaka Wakili President Goodluck Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan has announced a donation of N50 million to assist the Nigerian Football Supporters’ Club Worldwide to participate in the World Cup holding in Brazil in June.

Jonathan announced the donation at the Presidential Villa in Abuja yesterday after he was formally decorated as the grand patron of the Nigerian Supporters Club Worldwide by the President-General of the club, Rafiu Ladipo,

The president, who was also presented with a regalia, staff of office and a trophy, said he would equally approach those he described as “big boys” to also assist the club.

He said the federal government and all Nigerians appreciated the efforts of the supporters’ club so far, saying its members need to be encouraged as they go to Brazil for the World Cup.

“The federal government is going to give you a token, but I’ll personally consult with the senior boys to add something to that. The federal government is going to start it with the sum of N50 million. But I’m hopeful that by the time I’ll talk to some of our senior boys, I think the money may even double. I thank the Nigerian football supporters club for most sincerely for this recognition and may God bless us all”, he said.

According to him, activities of the club have over the years helped in no small measure to give the nation’s players confidence to excel whenever they compete around the world.

The president, who charged the club not to relent in their efforts, said he hoped to be with them at the World Cup in Brazil.
