Northern govs urge sustained prayers against insurgency
The Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) yesterday urged Nigerians, especially those in the North, not to despair over the persistent attacks on innocent citizens in the region but to continue to pray for its end.
Chairman of the forum and Governor of Niger State, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, in a reaction to the attack on some communities in Zamfara State where about 112 people were reportedly killed last weekend, urged well meaning Nigerians to continue to pray to God to end the scourge of senseless killing of defenceless citizens.
Aliyu’s reaction
was contained in a statement by his spokesman, Danladi Ndayebo which said: “The Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) expresses shock and sadness at the attack in Yar Galadima Village in Maru Local Government at the weekend. It is regrettable that the attack came a few days after several people were killed in a similar attack in a community in Zurmi Local Government of the state.” The forum said the spate of attacks in the past few weeks negated all efforts by security agencies to restore peace to the region. It commiserated with families of those killed or injured and called on security agencies to double their efforts in the discharge of their responsibilities.
