The Minister of Environment, Laurentia Mallam has called for improvement on the facilities at the National Parks in order to promote tourism in the country.

The minister who made the call during a familiarization visit to National Parks Headquarters, Abuja, on Monday also observed that other seven national parks should be improved and additional ones created.

“We can promote tourism and people will come from all over the world to see what we have. The beauty of Africa, it is not just here. The other seven national parks should also improve and additional ones created if possible in every state,” she said.

Mallam who was received by staff of the National Park, lead by Haruna Abubakar, the Conservator General, was taken round the parks to see the Animal Orphanage, Mini Park, Museum and the Arboretum where all indigenous plant species are planted for conservation of their genetic resources.

She added that due to the activities being carried out in the parks, there is need for government to improve the welfare of the people taking care of the park.

“All we need to do is to let government know what they are doing here and the danger incurred in the cause of carrying out their assignment which will encourage government to do something and improve their welfare,”

The minister was also notified of the operating seven strategic parks across the country and what is obtainable there.
