Imo APC crisis heightens over cancellation of state congress

- From Johnkennedy Uzoma Owerri

The lingering crisis facing the All Progressives Congress (APC) Imo State chapter has heightened following the cancellation of the state congress.

Chairman of the state congress committee, Chief Paul Chukwuma, while addressing delegates for the congress announced the cancellation without giving reasons.

He said a new date would be communicated to the delegates.

Daily Trust gathered that the cancellation of the congress may have come from the national leadership of the party following the circumstances surrounding the resignation of the former state interim chairman of the party, Prince Marshall Okaforanyanwu.

It was gathered that the national body is not happy with the lingering face off between the governor and the former interim chairman which may have led to his resignation from the party.

It was learnt that the exercise was scheduled to hold at the Exco Chambers of the Government House Owerri to ratify the selection exercise of the state executive carried out by the Governor and some other party members.

The earlier meeting of the party saw the selection of Director General of the Governor’s campaign structure the ‘Agenda Group’ Mr. Hilary Eke as the APC State Chairman.

When contacted, the state interim Publicity Secretary Dr.Ifeanyi Ekenasi, said the cancellation of the State Congress was to make sure everything is put in order devoid of hasty arrangement.

He denied the allegation that the congress was meant to ratify the state executive members of the party selected outside the congress.
