Chibok elders fault FG over c’ttee on missing girls

- By Turaki A. Hassan

The leader of Chibok Elders Forum, Dr. Pogu Bitrus, says President Goodluck Jonathan is trying to divert the attention of Nigerians by setting up a fact-finding committee to find out the circumstances surrounding the abduction of 234 secondary school girls from Chibok, Borno State.

Jonathan had last Friday constituted the committee under the chairmanship of retired Brig. Gen Ibrahim Sabo but didn’t give them any time frame within which to complete the assignment.

Speakingto DailyTrust yesterdayinAbuja,Dr. Bitrus said the affected communities of AskiraUba, Chibok and Gwoza are also protesting the exclusion of parents of the abducted girls from membership of the committee.

He accused government of trying to abdicate its responsibility of rescuing the girls by setting up the committee.

“None of the parents from the three communities of Askira Uba, Chibok and Gwazo is included in the committee. We told the committee chairman that members of these communities are not happy that they were excluded. Already they are protesting,” Dr. Bitrus said.

“How can you set up a committee on their daughters that were captured and you exclude them? Nobody is from Chibok, Margi and Gwazo. We also know that since they have started talking about committee they are trying to forget about rescue effort.”

“They want to divert people’s attention from the main issue of rescuing the girls which has taken centre stage these days. They will just await the report of the committee and as usual lock it up in the shelves”, he added.
