Generator fumes kill family of 7

Seven members of a family died at the weekend at Ijede area of Lagos after inhaling fumes from an electricit­y generator.

They were suspected to have died in their sleep as a result of inhalation of fumes from the generating set kept at the back of their room when they went to bed.

A police source at the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigat­ions Department (SCID) Panti Street, Yaba said neighbours raised an alarm when they saw no sign of the occupants of the one room apartment in Saturday morning.

“Neighbours drew the attention of the police to their absence. By the time the police forced the doors open they saw the man, his wife and five children dead”, he said.

Lagos State police spokespers­on Ngozi Braide who confirmed the incident said at about 4pm, one Etim Edet, an employee of the Nigerian Breweries Plc Lagos was found dead with his wife and five children on their beds at his residence at Bagido area of Ijede.

She added that when policemen forced the door open no sign of violence was seen on their bodies and they were suspected to have died from generator fumes.
