Gunmen abduct Rivers council chairman

The Rivers State police command yesterday confirmed the abduction of the Ahoada West LG Council Chairman Barrister Miller Awori by unknown gunmen along Ada George axis of Port Harcourt.

Miller was reportedly abducted by three armed men at Acinia hotel along the newly constructed Ada Geroge Road in Port Harcourt at about 10pm Saturday.

It was not clear if he was lodging there even as details of the incident could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report, although the police confirmed the incident. Assistant Police Public Relations Officer Grace IringeKoko told reporters that the police had spread their dragnet to rescue him.

“We have begun investigation and I assure you that before long he will be released. We will not only ensure that he is released, we will also fish out those behind the kidnap and make them face the full wrath of the law,” IringeKoko said. She said no ransom has so far been demanded by the kidnappers and the family has been notified of the incident.
