Details were sketchy at press time yesterday but our correspondent gathered that he had been critically ill at a specialist hospital in Enugu. Justice Oputa, the father of popular musician, Charley boy, is famous for heading the human rights investigation commission popularly known as The Oputa Panel which was set up to investigate rights abuses during the 15 years of military rule after Chief Olusegun Obasanjo assumed power under democratic rule in 1999. The late legal luminary was early this year admitted at the Okpara Nursing home of the Federal Medical Center, Owerri for treatment. His admission attracted the attention of many Imo sons and daughters including Governor Rochas Okorocha who promised to settle his medical bill. He was born in 1923 in Oguta LGA of Imo State.
