- By Abubakar Sadiq Isah

The Agabe of UgbadaGwargwada community in Kuje Area Council of the FCT, Alhaji Hussaini Agabi Mam, has directed all district/village heads to set up a committee at their local levels in order to identify visitors coming to reside in their domain so as to checkmate cases of cattle rustling in their communities.

Mam, while speaking when he summoned village/district heads and Ardo of Fulani under his chiefdom to a meeting at his palace, said the committee, which should comprise of farmers and herdsmen, was to identify the good people coming into their communities.

According to him, his meeting with the farmers and Fulani as village/district heads in his chiefdom was sequel to a meeting with the FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohmmed, where all FCT traditional rulers were in attendance to deliberate on security challenges.

He urged the district and village heads to report any strange face they see within their domains to security agents and to also monitor the people, who go around stealing cattle.

The monarch also directed the village/district heads to also ensure that no land is allocated to any visitor in their community, saying there is a formal procedure to acquire land since it is vested in the hands of government.

“As you are all aware, the country is seriously facing security challenges and there is need for us to come together and see how the issue of security will be tackled, especially with the reported cases of cattle rustling in various communities. And it is on this premise that I want all of you, as you go back to your respective villages, to set up a committee at the local level to checkmate this issue of people going about stealing cows,” he said.

The monarch also called on the federal government to intensify effort to strengthen security by providing sophisticated weapons and to also intensify stop and search on all vehicles.
