Headless body of infant found inside refuse dump at Mpape “We discovered that his left fingers, head and private part were all removed and wrapped in a nylon bag

The body of a beheaded infant has been discovered in a refuse dump at Mpape, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory, witnesses have said.

City News was informed that a scavenger, popularly called babanbola in the local parlance, raised the alarm after discoverin­g the headless body of the infant at the back of Cross Rock area near an undevelope­d open field.

The alarm raised by the scavenger, the added, attracted people from a nearby market, who rushed to the scene and saw the body of the infact thought to be below three months old.

“We discovered that his left fingers, head and private part were all removed and wrapped in a nylon bag, then dumped on the refuse dump. As we gathered in shock, police patrol vehicle rushed to the scene and dispersed us. Nobody could ascertain who killed the infant and the reasons for mutilating his body in such a gruesome manner,” one of the witnesses told City News.

When contacted on the incident, the Mpape Divisional Police Officer, Chief Superinten­dent Abayomi Surajudeen, said there was no official report concerning the matter.

He, however, said that recently, in the same area where the body of the infant was said to have been found, suspected cult members belonging to different cult groups such as the Senior and Junior Arror Bargers, the Junior Vickings, Black Axes, Aye Confratern­ity and Women Belas, among others, engaged in what they termed as spiritual cleansing.

The police chief said the suspected cult members were equally arrested in that open field and that they would be charged to court immediatel­y while pleading with residents to report such cases to the police.

When contacted, the FCT police spokespers­on, Deputy Superinten­dent Hyelhira Altine Daniel, also denied knowledge of the beheaded infant but said that investigat­ion will immediatel­y commence on the issue.
