- By Adelanwa Bamgboye

The Chief Executive Officer of the Albino Foundation, Jake Ekpelle, has charged the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to include albinos among the vulnerable by putting in place special measures to rescue them during emergency period.

Leading members of his group on a courtesy visit to the Director of General of FEMA, Alhaji Abbas G. Idriss, Ekpele said the call became necessary due to the myopic nature of the albino sight which prevents them from seeing things easily and clearly.

He also called for training of rescue personnel on how to evacuate people with albinism in time of emergency.

He specifically asked for the development of an emergency management manual on vulnerable groups by the agency, noting that such manual would go a long way in assisting people with special needs during emergency period.

Ekpele further advocated for printing of large caution signs that can easily be seen by albinos at strategic places enlightening them about disaster management.

“There’s a need for your agency to develop a manual for the vulnerable groups in disaster management. This will include people with disabilities, blind, the elderly, deaf and dumb and the albino.

You have to provide large print format caution signs that can be easily seen by albinos,” he said.

Responding, DG of FEMA, Alhaji Abbas G. Idriss, applauded the foundation’s activities that are meant to better the lots of the albino.
