Kwara to expand Sharia Court operation
Grand Khadi of Kwara State Sharia Court of Appeal, Justice Salihu Olohuntoyin Mohammed, yesterday said the operation of the court would be expanded to all parts of the state.
He said the court, in the last five months opened more registries in Kaiama and Baruten Local Government Areas in the northern part of the state.
Olohuntoyin, whose appointment was recently confirmed, said more registries would be opened in Kwara South, even as existing offices would be strengthened to ease access to justice in line with Islamic jurisprudence.
“We are seriously working towards expanding our areas of operation. In fact within the last five months that I have been acting, we have made our presence felt in Kaiama; we have opened our registry in Kaiama with our staff there. We have reinforced our office at Kosubosu in Baruten Local Government and my people are there now,” he said.
The Grand Khadi said he also met with traditional rulers in various parts of the state and chief imams, as well as politicians and that they are aiding operation of the court.
“I want everybody to see that the court belongs to them. People who cause trouble know little about Islam, because the name of our religion itself is peace. So everything that will promote peace is what you should tread and shun anything that will promote violence”, he said.
