Bafarawa’s ally, 3 others battle to take over Sokoto PDP

- From Rakiya A.Muhammad and Abubakar Auwal, Sokoto

The battle for the control of the soul of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State has heat up with four people gunning for the chairmanship of the party in the state.

Four other persons are also nursing the ambition to become secretary of the party while two have indicated interests in vying for the position of treasurer.

Those vying for chairmanship include Alhaji Ibrahim Milgoma, Alhaji Muhammed Galadima Horo, and Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Tambuwal from Sokoto South Senatorial district and Alhaji Ibrahim Magaji Gusau from Sokoto Central.

While Alhaji Kabiru Aliyu, Muhammed Wadata Usman, Sa’idu Muhammed Dunburawa and Abubakar Umar Wamakko, all from Sokoto Central are vying for the position of secretary.

Bafarawa’s younger brother, Alhaji Nasiru Bafarawa is aspiring to become treasurer of the party in the state, so also is Musa Marafa Salihu.

According to the party’s zoning arrangement, the chairmanship should be reserved for the western zone where incidentally, most of the PDP governorship aspirants hail from while the position of secretary goes to the central zone and treasurer, eastern zone.

One of those vying for the position of chairman, Ibrahim Gusau, who is the only chairmanship aspirant not from the western zone, argued that it would have been better to zone the chairmanship of the party to a zone that has no governorship aspirant for even distribution among the zones.

He also pointed out that since PDP started in the state, the party chairmen had been from the western zone.

Bafarawa is said to be supporting Alhaji Ibrahim Milgoma who is one of those who decamped to the PDP with him and is his political ally and chairman of the defunct All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) in the state to become chairman.

But the PDP publicity secretary in the state, Alhaji Abubakar Kantoma, said the allegation of Bafarawa imposing a candidate was being peddled by the opposition party, saying the former governor is not involved in such things.

He said the party has not decided which zone should produce their gubernatorial flag bearer.
