Pupils dazzle parents with Qur’an recitation at Esteem school’s graduation
Thirty-six pupils of Esteem International School, Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, at the weekend, thrilled both parents and teachers as they took turns to recite the Holy Qur’an during the school’s walimatul graduation ceremony.
The pupils, comprising 20 boys and 16 girls, mostly from primary four class, were also presented with plagues and copies of the Qur’an, having successfully completed the recitation of the noble Qur’an.
The Director of the school, Musa Bukar Sani, said the event, which is the 7th edition since the inception of the school, is one way of celebrating the pupils for making the school proud by their outstanding performance in Qur’an recitation.
Describing the Qur’an as the constitution of a Muslim as well as a character molder, Sani explained that it is not only important to recite it, but to apply the knowledge acquired from it.
“Quran shapes one’s character, and it is one’s character that determines who the person is. If a child loses his character, he loses the person in him,” he stressed.
He challenged parents
to attach more seriousness to the educational pursuit of their children, by making out time for their studies at home, arguing that nothing can be more important than their academics.
Also speaking, the Head Teacher of the school, Mariya S. Sani, noted that the brilliant and outstanding performance of the pupils was a product of hard work, commitment and diligence.
She said the successful graduates underwent a tutoring for a period of a full session, after which they were screened based on proficiency and concentration.
While congratulating the graduates for the achievement, the head teacher urged them to continue in that spirit, saying ‘this is only their beginning.’
One of the parents, Atabo M. Abubakar, could not hide his joy, insisting that the spectacular performance of the pupils had further confirmed that the resources being spent on them are not wasted.
Abubakar, who is also the Chairman, Parents Teachers’ Association (PTA) of the school, described the event as the height of fulfillment of any parent, especially seeing a child recite Qur’an before entering secondary school.
