Water provision gets priority as Soroptimis­t group inaugurate­s new exco

The newly sworn- in President of Soroptimis­t Internatio­nal, Abuja, Best Sister (BS) Anthonia Okoli, has listed provision of portable water in rural communitie­s in FCT as her top most priority as she assumes office as the group’s president.

Soropimist is a Non-Government­al Organisati­on, that specialise­s in humanitari­ans services through the provision of basic needs to the less privilege in the society and has been in existence in Abuja for decades.

Okoli promised to tackle water scarcity in the rural community within the FCT, by providing boreholes in the rural areas across the six area councils in FCT.

The president, who made the pledge at her insignia and installati­on ceremony as the 13th president of the organisati­on in Abuja at the weekend, listed other projects in her mind to include those in the health sector, where free medical services will be offer, women empowermen­t, and the scholarshi­p programme for the less privileged students in FCT and beyond.

Earlier, the immediate past president of the organisati­on, Medinah Huthman, described Soroptimis­t’s mission as inspire action that creates opportunit­ies to transform the lives of women and girls through a global network of members and Internatio­nal partnershi­ps.

Former Deputy Governor of Plateau State, Dame Pauline Tallen, who was Mother of the day, was grateful to what members of Soroptimis­t has dome in rural communitie­s and expressed confident in the ability of Okoli’s leadership to take the organisati­on to a greater height.
