Kwali windstorm’s victims get relief materials

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Thursday donated relief material to the victims of windstorm, whose houses collapsed and rooftops pulled-off last month at Sabon-Garin Bassa village, in Kwali Area Council of the FCT.

Among the materials donated included 20 bags of rice, 20 bags of beans, 20 bags of garri, 50 bundles of roofing sheets, 10 bags of 3inch nail, 10 packets of zinc nail, 50 pieces of wrappers as well as 100 bags of cement

Also, the FCT National Emergency Management Agency donated 20 mattresses, 20 blankets, 20 pillows and 20 buckets.

The Director -General of the FCT NEMA, Alhaji Abbas Idris, while presenting the relief materials through the chairman of the council, Ibrahim Daniel, said the agency sympathise with the victims.

He said FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed, also identified with them, describing the incident as a natural disaster, which is above human control.

Chairman of the council, Mr. Ibrahim Daniel, who also received the relief materials on behalf of the affected victims, said he had since set up a committee to access the damages caused by the windstorm in order to assist the victims.

“The council has thereafter, donated relief materials to cushion the effect of the windstorm caused on the victims,’’ he said.

He commended NEMA both at national and FCT levels for coming to the aid of the victims.
