Akwuegbu charges Super Eagles to attack Iran

- By David Ngobua

Former Super Eagles striker, Bendict Akwuegbu has charged the Eagles to make sure they attack Iran for the whole duration of the match, if they are to kick off their 2014 World Cup campaign on a winning note.

The Super Eagles take on Iran tonight in the second match of Group F and are expected to win in order to stand a good chance of qualifying from the group.

Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, the former international said Eagles will get the maximum points, if they play attacking football for 90 minutes as he said attacking the Iranians will keep them in their own half.

He also said if they play as a team, the Eagles will surely beat their opponents but if they continue with individual play as was witnessed in some of their pre-World Cup friendly matches, it will be difficult for them to win.

Akwuegbu maintained that Keshi should make use of three forceful forwards in Victor Moses, Osaze Odemwingie, Emmanuel Amunike and Ahmed Musa saying either Moses or Odemwingie should operate from the left, Emenike should top the attack while Musa takes charge of the right flank.

“I am confident the Super Eagles will beat Iran. However, to beat their opponents, they must be ready to attack throughout the duration of the match.

“Secondly, they must play as a team. If the whole departments of the team cooperate with one another, there will be more cohesion than what we all saw during their friendly matches.

“I advise that Keshi should play Ahmed Musa on the right, Emmanuel Emenike should lead the attack while either Osaze or Victor Moses should operate from the left. These players are fast and will make life difficult for the Iranian defenders,” he said.
