Katsina Spotlight happy with first round outing

The coordinato­r of National Division one side, Katsina Spotlight football club, Alhaji Ayuba Umar has described the performanc­e of the club in the first stanza of the 2013/14 season as impressive.

Umar who charged the players to maintain the tempo and be focused towards securing one of the promotion tickets to the Nigeria Profession­al Football League, said all they need to do is to double their efforts in the second stanza in order to realise their dream.

The Club co-ordinator, while expressing the state government’s commitment through the Commission­er of sports Alhaji Aminu Ibrahim Safana to the club said the welfare of the players and their officials will remain a thing of priority.

The club which posted a 1-1 away draw against Nigeria Prisons football club recently at the Old Parade ground Abuja to put their points haul in the first stanza to 29 behind Kwara United and Wikki Tourist with 30 and 35 points respective­ly.

Meanwhile the club captain, Abdullahi Mohammed has expressed optimism that the club will be one of the four promoted teams at the end of the season.

Abdullahi, a former defence ace of Nigerian Premier League defending champions, Kano Pillars, said with his vast experience in the league, he will assist in ensuring that the club gains promotion to the elite division.
