Nasarawa lawmakers insist on impeachment move against Al-makura
The Nasarawa State House of Assemblyhassaiditwouldnotrescind its decision on the impeachment move against Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.
Addressing journalists in Abuja yesterday, chairman of the state House committee on information, security and special duties Mohammed Baba Ibaku said Al-Makura committed impeachable offences which it would not allow to go unpunished.
He said going by the oral submissions they received from some officials in the various ministries in the state and the report of the auditor-general, they were satisfied that the governor had engaged in “constitutional misconduct.”
“He violated the constitution. Some have to do with misconduct, and it’s only the assembly that can define misconduct; others are siphoning money for personal use and extra-budgetary expenditures.
“I want to assure the people of Nasarawa State that we’re not relenting. There are two roads we intend to go through; we either go through the gate or through the media, we must get to him. By tomorrow, I’m assuring the people of Nasarawa State and Nigeria that the 16 allegations will be spelt out pageto-page in our media,” he said.
Last Monday, the state legislators adopted a resolution to impeach the governor, accusing him of sundry offences including spending “over N500 million without documents and N800 million looted through a so-called consultant which he sacked.”
