Senate confirms Chidoka, Suleiman as ministers

- By Turaki A. Hassan

The Senate yesterday screened and confirmed the nomination of Mr. Osita Chidoka and Dr. Suleiman Abubakar as ministers from Anambra and Kwara States respectively.

Chidoka who is the Corps Marshall of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) was the first to be grilled by the lawmakers where he denied allegations that he unilaterally relocated the commission’s training school from Jos, Plateau State to Enugu State.

He explained that the training school was originally meant to be cited in Enugu State but because it was not built the management of the commission decided to temporarily cite it in Jos and was only relocated to Enugu after the State government provided land for the school.

The Corp Marshall also said if given the opportunity to serve as Aviation minister, he would rally all stakeholders in the industry towards coming up with a national carrier for the nation.

For his part, Dr. Suleiman said that no amount of sacrifice made by Nigeria in Africa is too much as according to him; Africa should continue to be the centre-piece of Nigeria’s foreign policy.

“We cannot leave Africa’s problem for other smaller African nations. Africa or Nigeria by divine role we are destined to take care of other African nations. We cannot say that because there is crisis at home we cannot look at issues in Mali, Sudan or other African countries,” Dr. Abubakar said.
