NSCDC operatives invade JAMB office, beat up staff

- From Usman A. Bello, Lokoja

Operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) yesterday invaded Kogi State office of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and assaulted some staff, Daily Trust gathered. Journalists, who were at the NSCDC command to get comments from the state Commandant, Dayo Adesuyi, over the matter, were also assaulted by operatives of the corps who ordered them out of premises.

A witness, who spoke to our correspondent said NSCDC personnel numbering over 200 stormed the JAMB office at Zone 8 area of Lokoja, with arms and beat up some staff in an attempt to arrest the security guard manning the office.

He alleged that the NSCDC operatives who surrounded the office stripped a male staff naked, dragged him to their office and detained him.

Speaking with journalists, JAMB coordinator in Kogi, Daniel Agbo said the NSCDC had earlier written a letter to the board, saying that the security outfit, Spytech Security, it was using was illegal.

“When we received the letter, we forwarded it to the headquarters for appropriate action. We were still waiting for response when NSCDC stormed our office. I took them to my office to discuss the issue, but as we were discussing, I heard commotion within the premises so I decided to go out and check what was happening,” he said.

He said when he got out, he was surprised to see NSCDC operatives who had surrounded the office assaulting staff. He said one Ada Ogbole was stripped naked, beaten up and dragging on the ground to the NSCDC office.

“One Victoria Tasio, Adiza Adams and some other staff were seriously beaten up too and they lost their phones. The office also lost money and scratch cards as the officer who was stripped naked is the one in charge of selling JAMB scratch cards”, he said.
