Deeper Life to establish Anchor University

- From Eyo Charles, Calabar

The General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor W. F. Kumuyi, has confirmed that they have concluded arrangements for the take-off of Anchor University.

Represented by the Cross River State overseer of the church, Professor Andrew Friday Oduigwomen, at a press briefing to announce their mega-crusade holding at Ikot Offiong Ambai in Akpabuyo local government council of the state, Kumuyi said they are presently liaising with the National University Commission (NUC) over it.

“Anchor University will soon be established by the Deeper Life Bible Church. We have almost concluded arrangements with the NUC on other requirements”, he said.

The former dean and head of Department of Philosophy at the University of Calabar, Prof Oduigwomen said that he is a member of the proposed Anchor University advisory/academic board, adding that they will ensure the new university is solid.

Though he did not disclose where in Nigeria the university would be situated, he added that it was part of their collaboration with the federal government to improve education in the country.

He also disclosed that the first four faculties of the Anchor University will include Humanities, Education, Social Sciences and Management.

He stated that they have primary and secondary schools in parts of the country where Nigerian children are receiving steady tuition, most of them through the scholarship from the church.

He lamented that the state of insecurity in the country was impacting against the school system as insurgents have succeeded in driving fear into students and lecturers, especially in parts of the country where lives and properties are at risk.

“Nigerians, including students need peace. As soon as possible government should see how they can address the demands of the insurgents. But overall, we all must pray to God to intervene.”

He used the opportunity to call Nigerian students, members and others to beware of corruptible influences from television, videos as well as social online portals.

“Some TV programmes pollute the minds of the people, that is why we discourage our members and students from watching them.

As a church we do not condemn electronic media as we are partners in disseminating morals and the word of God”.
