Nomadic Education Commission organises workshop for teachers in Gombe
The National Commission for Nomadic Education in collaboration with the National Teachers’ Institute, Kaduna, has organised a three day workshop with the theme “Innovative Techniques of Teaching the core subjects and Classroom Management” for Nomad Teachers recently in Gombe.
Speaking during the workshop flagging- off ceremony, the Executive Secretary National Commission for Nomadic Education Professor Rashid Adewunmi, represented by the commission’s Director of Programme Development Aliyu Ardo Alhaji, said the objective of the workshop is to reorientate the teachers on the peculiarities of the reviewed nomadic education curriculum and textual materials in four core subjects areas, develop the knowledge and competences of teachers on strategies for achieving effective teaching and learning; expose the teachers on the techniques of linking the classroom with the community; build capacity of the teachers on scheme of work and lesson plan development and conduct micro teaching sessions on the workshop themes.
He said the conduct and timing of the workshop is to ensure that the capacity of teachers is developed to improve the quality of teaching and learning as part of efforts aimed at addressing the outcry on the poor learning outcomes associated with the low capacity of teachers.
According to him the workshop is taking place in all the six selected centres across the country with a total of 613 teachers selected to benefit from the programme and the programme is a continuous process to ensure regular training and retraining of school teachers to improve on their skills and competences for the provision of quality tuition for the achievement of education for all and the Millennium Development Goals as provided for the education sector strategic development plan.
