Katsina-ala college of education to recommence degree programmes

-

The Benue House of Assembly has called on management of the College of Education in KatsinaAla to expedite action on the recommencement of its Bachelor of Education (B. Ed) programmes.

The legislative body made the call yesterday in Makurdi during plenary after debating part of the report of its Committee on Education.

Lead the debate, the committee’s Chairman, Mr Olofu Ogwuche, informed the House that the National Council of Colleges of Education (NCCE) has permitted the college to

its

B. Ed recommence programmes.

The college was awarding B. Ed degrees in the late 1980s before it was advised to stop.

Ogwuche said the committee, during its visit to the college, discovered that the college’s host community was still demanding compensation after it had collected its full compensation from the state government.

He also said the community was agitating for more employment opportunities in the college.

“The people are disturbing the college management for additional corporate responsibilities, after much has been done for them,’’ the legislator said.

He said it was rather unfortunate that the college, since inception in 1976, was yet to be connected to the public power supply and water.

Ruling, the Deputy Speaker, Dr Stephen Onmeje, who presided over the session, urged the community to refrain from a continuous agitation for compensation.

“Full compensation has been paid to the community a long time ago,’’ he said. (NAN)
