Man accused of clubbing roommate to death at Mararaba
A middle-aged man has allegedly been clubbed to death by his roommate over what was described as a minor disagreement recently in Yelwa village, Mararaba in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Investigation revealed that the suspected killer used a pestle to hit the deceased on the head while he was asleep at night on the fateful day.
The suspect is said to hail from Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, while the state of origin/town of the victim, who is believed to be a foreigner could not be ascertained.
Findings showed that trouble started when the suspect allegedly demanded N35,000 from the victim, and also insisted that the money must be made available within four days.
Our reporter gathered that the deceased, who was said to have lived in Yelwa for a long time as a farmer/labourer, failed to meet the deadline, and that angered his assailant, who allegedly clubbed him to death and abandoned the corpse on a farm in the village.
Further investigation indicated that luck ran out on the suspect when a farmer at Jewu in Yelwa village, sometime in July this year, discovered an already decomposing corpse on one of the farms.
City News learnt that the farmer reported the incident to the police and a team of detectives went to the farm to evacuate the corpse. Subsequent investigations based on information received by the police led to the arrest of the suspect, who lived together with the deceased in Toko, Yelwa village.
When our reporter visited the Mararaba ‘A’ Division Police Station to confirm the incident, he was told by a police officer, who pleaded anonymity, that the suspect admitted committing the crime as a result of minor disagreement between him and the deceased.
Efforts to get more insight into the incident yielded no fruit as our reporter was asked to go to Lafia Police Headquarters, where the case has been transferred to.
