Shehu denies absconding with Saudi club’s money

- By David Ngobua

Contrary to reports that he absconded with over $12,000 dollars, about N1.9m given to him by Arabia, Al-Qadisiyah FC of Saudi in the build up to the deal he was to sign, Kano Pillars midfielder Shehu Abdullahi has come out to say nothing of sort happened.

Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, Abdullahi said when he got to Saudi Arabia, he discovered that Al-Qadisiyah is not the kind of club he would want to play for so he decided to back out of the deal.

He said when he told the club that he was not going to sign, he was asked to refund the $12,000 that was given to him back in Nigeria but he told the club officials that the money was with their representative in Kano.

The Super Eagles midfielder said there and then contact was made with the club’s representative in Nigeria and once he confirmed that the money was still with him, the club released his passport to him.

“It is funny to hear that I went to Saudi and absconded with a club’s money. I didn’t abscond with their money. When I got there, I realised that the club is not my ideal team and I backed out of the deal.

“They asked for the $12,000 which they said I should settle my family before I travelled. I told them the money was with their agent in Kano. The moment they confirmed it was true, they released my passport to me.

“I even refunded their ticket money and paid for my accommodation. So where and how did I abscond with their money. If I did, I am not sure they would have allowed me to travel back,” he said.

Abdullahi said he is getting set to jet out to Kuwait where another deal is waiting for him to sign.
