Resignation: Former Adamawa dep gov goes to court
Former Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Bala Ngillari, has gone to the state High Court to seek interpretation of the impeachment process initiated against him by the House of Assembly.
Press Secretary in the deputy governor’s office, Maxwell Dukku, who confirmed the court action, however said he could not speak for the former deputy governor because his appointment had just been terminated by the acting governor, Ahmadu Fintiri.
A close aide told Daily Trust that Ngillari had asked the High Court to determine whether he was bound to appear before the panel over the offences he was alleged to have committed even when he did not receive a notice from the Assembly.
The controversy on the validity of Ngillari’s resignation continues as a letter dated July 15 emanated from the Assembly in which Nyako informed the House that he was nominating Adamu Kamale, the member representing Michika as deputy governor, following the resignation of Bala.
The Press Secretary to the Acting Governor, Solomon Kumanga, said the letter indicated that Ngillari had written to the governor before communicating it to the House.
But the spokesman of Nyako, Ahmad Sajo, denied any such communication between the former governor’s office and the Assembly. Attempts to speak to Ngillari were unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, the Majority Leader of the Adamawa House of Assembly, Ishaq Bala, representing Yola North Constituency, has been replaced by Salihu Kabilo, representing Verre Constiuency who was the Chief Whip. Bala did not show up during the plenary session in which Nyako was impeached although his signature was on the list of members who support the impeachment.
