Ogun teachers protest over govt policy

Hundreds of secondary school teachers in Ogun State yesterday engaged in a peaceful protest against the state government’s policy which they claimed had stagnated their career for nine years.

The teachers who sought a meeting with the state governor, Ibikunle Amosun, workers at the secretaria­t hostage paralysing activities.

They accused the state government of reneging on the agreements earlier reached with them only to evolve what they described as an “obnoxious career progressio­n and adjustment” policy.

Addressing the protesters, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Olabisi Akinnuga, appealed to them to be patient over their demands since the TESCOM chairman, Ms Bukola Onabanjo, was not around.

Akinnuga said she had only signed the letter informing the teachers that they would only forfeit six years and not nine years as thought.

The teachers however, proceeded to the governor’s office within the secretaria­t complex where they were addressed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Adeoluwa Taiwo, who also pleaded with them to be patient, promising that government would meet their leaders on the matter next week.
