- From Itodo Daniel Sule, Jalingo

About 5,000 people affected by crises in Wukari and Ibi councils of Taraba State yesterday appealed to the state government to resettle them.

Chairman of displaced persons camping at the Muslim Council Secretariat, Jalingo , Saidu Mohammed Abaka, said it will be difficult for victims to return to their villages, as their homes and sources of livelihood have been destroyed. While expressing gratitude for support given to them by the government so far, Abaka called for more assistance in the areas of drugs, food and tents to improve lives of people at the camp.

Information Co-ordinator of Red Cross in the state, Umar B. Waziri, on his part, said the state government and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) as well as UNICEF have been assisting displaced persons at the camp.

He said UNICEF provided some educational materials to afford the children opportunity to learn while at the camp.

He said there is a health centre at the camp but that the drugs are not adequate. He further stated that efforts are being made to keep the camp environment clean to avoid outbreak of diseases.
