NSCDC sanctions 4 over attack on JAMB staff

- From Usman A. Bello, Lokoja

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) has sanctioned four of its men over the attack on staff of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Kogi State.

State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr Adesuyi Clement Dayo, disclosed this to journalists in Lokoja yesterday while making clarifications on the incident.

He said following the report of the incident, NCSDC Commandant General, Dr. Ade Abolurin, ordered him to sanction all those involved in the attack.

Dayo said the command got information that Boko Haram has infiltrated private security guard outfits in an attempt to carry out attacks in Kogi State, and that as part of its mandate to register all private guard companies, the officer in charge went to JAMB and other offices to verify the legality or otherwise of security companies they are using.

“While at JAMB office, an argument ensued which later lead to a fracas. One of my officers was beaten with a charmed ring and the affected officer is currently receiving treatment at the home of a herbalist,” he said.

He also apologised to journalists who were assaulted and solicited their cooperation.

Operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) had on Wednesday invaded Kogi State JAMB office and assaulted some staff, just as journalists, who were at the command to get comments from the state Commandant, Dayo Adesuyi, over the matter, were assaulted by operatives of the corps who ordered them out of the premises.
