How I embraced Islam, Gwagwalada village head narrates

- By Abubakar Sadiq Isah

The traditional ruler of Dada-Gbiri community in Dobi ward of Gwagwalada Area Council in the FCT, Etsu Mohammed Tanko, has said his desire to convert to Islam was strengthened by a dream he had after meeting a Cleric, Abdullahi Kontagora, who preached to him on the need to embrace Islam.

Tanko, who was speaking when the Amira of Qismud Da’awa, Halima Sa’id, led her members to donate items to Muslims at the community on Saturday, said he thought deeply and realized that he had not been on the right path.

He said it was his late father, a Christian who died 26 years ago and who he succeeded as the village head of the community that built a mosque in front of his house.

‘It is almost five months now since I converted to Islam and it remains my happiest moment in life and I thank Allah that today I am living a different life. And, masha-Allahu, I have since started learning how to recite the Holy Qur’an,’’ he said.

The monarch said one of his five children has also changed faith, saying he would continue to preach to the remaining ones gradually until they embraced Islam.

He appealed to Qismud Da’awa to establish an Islamic centre at the community so that people will have access to acquire Islamic knowledge.

Also speaking, the Amira Halima Sa’id said her organisation was in the community to welcome the village head to Islam.

She noted that members of the group were at the village two months ago as part of their activities to preach to locals, especially women on the need to embrace Islam.

She, however, said it was against Islam to force someone to accept a religion but rather educate people on the beauty of the religion.
