Kaduna college lecturer shot dead by gunmen
A lecturer with the Shehu Idris College of Health Technology, Makarfi in Kaduna State was killed yesterday by unidentified gunmen at his residence in Kaduna. A family source who identified the victim as Ishiaku Garba said the incident occurred around 9pm on Saturday at his Kinkinau GRA residence shortly after the victims returned from the Ramadan night prayers.
“He rushed home to attend to a call from some ‘visitors’ waiting for him. Unknown to him, the visitors were the gunmen who earlier had access to the house, ceased the wife’s phone which was used to place the call and collected unspecified amount of money and other valuables from the wife,” the source said.
“Mallam Ishiaku ran into the ambush and was made to surrender his phone and money before finally being shot, point blank by the assailants in his room,” he said.
The District Head of Ungwan Muazu and Cikasauron Zazzau, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Idris, while confirming the incident said it was unfortunate how human life has been devalued.
The area had come under several armed robbery attacks in recent time. Two months ago, unknown gunmen shot a deputy director of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) at his residence in the same Kinkinau GRA. A suspected Boko Haram kingpin and his brother were also killed in a gun dwell in the area few weeks ago.
Residents have begun expressing apprehension over the frequent attacks. Isah Katsina, one of the residents who spoke to our correspondent attributed recent robbery attacks, house breaking and petty stealing in the area to the ban on commercial motorcyclists who are now out of job.
Kaduna State Police spokesman, SP Aminu Lawal said investigation has commenced on the matter to track down the perpectuators.
