Chairman of the Nigerian Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC) Dr. Erepamo Osaisai has called for the support of the National Population Commission (NPC) to get the needed data and information to enable NAEC get a license for citing its nuclear power plant.

He sought the support when he visited the NPC office in Abuja.

Osaisai said NAEC was looking at a number of issues including number of population in each unit which is critical and goes into the presiding documents in order to get license for the project’s citing.

He also said setting up a nuclear power plant in Nigeria was critical because of the risks involved, considering the insecurity challenges facing the country.

Nigeria would have to partner with international agencies to find ways to deal with the challenges and ensure that there are no casualties which was why it is partnering in training of professionals and transfer of information.

Osaisai said atomic energy is not just for electricity power but also important for agriculture, water resource management and oil exploration.

Chairman of the National Population Commission, Chief Eze Duruiheoma assured of his agency’s support in providing demographic data to the NAEC.

“I am calling on the masses to desist from domestic politics as it distorts proper and effective headcount and also proper planning,” Duruiheoma said.
