Aspirants begin campaign for Niger East senatorial seat
Aspirants for the Niger East senatorial seat have commenced campaign even as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is yet to fix a date for the by -election.
The two known candidates for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and that of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have over the weekend began serious consultations with stakeholders promising to perform if elected into the office.
Former Niger State Deputy Governor, Dr. Shem Nuhu Zagbayi who is contesting on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), over the weekend, visited the emirs in his constituency and promised to complete all the federal constituency’s projects started by Senator Dahiru Uwaisu Kuta if elected into office.
The Niger East senatorial district seat became vacant following the passing away of late Senator Kuta last month in Lagos at the age of 64 while on his way to London for medical treatment.
The PDP senatorial candidate made the promise when he visited the emirs of Minna, Suleja and Kagara that made up the senatorial district for consultation.
Zagbayi said he
is quite conversant with the problems of his senatorial district having lived all his life there and highlighted three key issues that he plans to tackle if voted for in the by-election.
In their different responses, the Emir of Suleja, Alhaji Auwal Ibrahim urged politicians to eschew bitterness because where peace failed to reign democracy is bound to fail whereas both Emirs of Minna, Alhaji Umar Faruk Bahago and Kagara, Salihu Tanko prayed and blessed the PDP candidate.
Barrister David Umaru , APC aspirant for the seat, was also on a similar consultation visit to the Emir of Suleja, Alhaji Muhammadu Awwal Ibrahim.
