APC governorship aspirant kicks at screening by Eggon groups
A chieftain of the APC and governorship aspirant in Nasarawa State, Dr. James Angbazo has kicked at the controversial screening exercise conducted by two rival groups of the Eggon ethnic group to choose a candidate ahead of 2015.
Angbazo told Daily Trust that the outcome of the screening exercise is of no effect on his constitutional rights to contest for the seat, as he said he did not submit himself to any of the rival groups for the controversial screening because he knows his rights.
Eggonland was split a week ago when two separate forums announced two different candidates screened to contest the governorship election on the platform of the PDP.
While Senator Solomon Ewuga (PDP, Nasarawa-North) emerged after a screening conducted by Eggon Stakeholders for the Actualization of Eggon Candidate 2015, Labaran Maku, the information minister, was screened by a parallel body and unveiled as the people’s candidate for the PDP race.
But Dr. Angbazo waved off the announcement on the two rival screenings.
“It is true I did not submit myself for screening. Why should I do that anyway? I can pick a handful of people around and ask them to screen people. Would the result be binding on anyone? I decided not to submit myself for screening because I know the result will not be binding on anyone especially that the aspirants are aspiring on the platform of different political parties, and that only their parties have the constitutional powers to screen them,” Dr. Angbazo said.
He said the disqualification of his aspiration by Eggon Stakeholders for the Actualization of Eggon Candidate 2015 is of no consequence on his aspiration to govern the state, and said he will continue to pursue his ambition, doing so in line with the provisions of the constitution of his party, and that of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
