NJF uncovers visa scam
The Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF) President Dr Musa Oshodi has said that the federation has uncovered plans by fraudsters to use its name to secure visas from embassies in the country.
Oshodi said yesterday in a telephone interview that the body has uncovered the ploy by some unscrupulous people using federation’s document to process visa for non judokas.
The development, which he said is tarnishing the image of the federation and the country at large, has been reported to the National Sports Commission and that all embassies in the country have been put on notice.
He said the embassy of Kazakhstan recently notified the body of request for visa applications purportedly for judokas for a training tour of their country which the federation was not aware of.
“The Consular of Kazakhstan recently wrote me to ascertain the authenticity of a visa application presented to them on behalf of NJF and I wrote back to state that there is no any Ibrahim Aminu working for the federation and we do not even have any training programme in Kazakhstan, moreover none of the names they sent to us for clarification is a judoka.
“This is not the first time we are experiencing this, a case like this was part of what we discovered from a former secretary of the federation who forwarded some fictitious names of judokas for a tournament in Southern Cross, Western Australia,” Oshodi said.
