Robbers kill 2 on Abuja-Kaduna highway

Two people have been killed and several commuters injured as a result of multiple vehicular accident during an armed robbery attack along Abuja/Kaduna road.

One of the victims who spoke to journalist­s in Kaduna said the accident occurred around 4pm near Doka Hospital along Abuja/Kaduna road on Friday.

“They blocked the road near Doka hospital and made unsuspecti­ng vehicles to ram into each other. About six vehicles were involved in the accident, which included a black official vehicle of I-Care Women and Children Initiative, an NGO of the wife of Vice President Namadi Sambo. The vehicle was completely burnt and could not be salvaged by sympathize­rs who stopped to help put off the fire,” one of the victims said.

Another victim and the Kaduna State Coordinato­r of NGO, Abdulrahma­n Mikailu, who spoke to our reporter from his hospital, bed at St. Gerald hospital in Kaduna yesterday said: “Two bullets shot by the bandits missed me narrowly when I tried to come out of my vehicle to put off the fire, not knowing that a robbery operation was going on. I had to duck and fall on the ground pretending to be dead.”

He said the armed bandit were in military uniform and “thought I was dead, so they proceeded to my car and ordered my co-traveler to surrender all his money and laptops, handsets and other personal belonging of both of us.

“I understand they killed two passengers in a ‘Sharon’ commercial vehicle and robbed several vehicles.

“I am lucky to have survived with bruises and chest injury from the impact of the accident.”

The Kaduna Police Command spkesman SP Aminu Lawal said the multiple accidents were caused by panicked drivers who tried to reverse in the middle of the road.

He said there were no official reports of casualties in the incident.
