We are fully ready, says INEC

- From Abdul-Hameed Olawale, Osogbo

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega has assured voters that the commission is adequately prepared for the August 9 governorship election in Osun State.

Speaking at the Election Stakeholders’ Forum organised by INEC at Osogbo, the INEC boss said various means have been devised to make it extremely difficult for the election to be rigged or manipulated.

He said, “Our goal is to make the Osun election the best ever conducted in Nigeria, the one which outcome will be difficult to dispute and the one in which winner would be the one that people want.”

Professor Jega further urged politicians to avoid desperate ways that can undermine the electoral processes as he observed that the actions of politicians have been detrimental to the electoral processes in Nigeria.

He said the commission has put in place colour coded ballot papers that would be used in different local governments and warned voters against taking photos of their ballot papers saying it is against the electoral law

He also cautioned politicians to guard their utterances so as not to undermine the electoral process and warned staff of the commission to be wary of the antics of politicians and advised them to do their jobs without bias.
