Useni dismisses complaints against Plateau PDP primaries
Plateau South senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), retired General Jeremiah Useni has commended the primary elections that produced candidates of the party at all levels in Plateau State for being ‘peaceful and fair’, dismissing the complaints trailing some of the primaries as ‘what could be expected from people who did not win.’
Complaints have been raised against some of the primaries, especially the governorship primary that was conducted Monday, December 11, but speaking to newsmen in his Jos home yesterday, Useni insisted that he was happy about the conduct of the primary elections.
“People thought the elections were going to tear Plateau into pieces. Thank God it didn’t happen. I thank the people of Plateau State, the organisers and delegates for a job well done; and I look forward to an even more peaceful elections in February next year,” Useni said.
Responding to a question on postprimary election protests, particularly the case of some governorship aspirants who went as far as demanding a cancellation of the governorship primary, Useni said, “people can complain, whether the conduct of the elections was good or not. Even if you bring Jesus to conduct election, I am sure people will still complain. It is a normal thing. If you are aggrieved, you complain, and people will listen to you too.”
He said it was up to the national headquarters of the PDP to investigate complaints and take action where necessary, and stressed that he was glad that the primaries in the state were conducted without a fight anywhere across the state.
