Elechi vows to remain in PDP

- From Nabob Ogbonna, Abakaliki

Governor Martin Elechi of Ebonyi State has said that he would remain in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to fight the injustice meted out on him.

Elechi, who made the declaration during a town hall meeting in Abakaliki, told the people not to worry for him concerning the rumoured impeachment plan against him by his estranged Deputy and PDP gubernatorial candidate, Chief Dave Umahi, the Speaker of the State Assembly, Chukwuma Nwazunku and their collaborators.

He said that he was ready to face anti-graft agencies for any alleged financial misdeeds that might be leveled against him, even as he maintained his support for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan for another term.

Elechi said he remains the governor and leader of the PDP in the state despite what the National Working Committee of the party did to him by manipulating the list of the November 1st ward delegates election.

He called on his supporters to vote for Jonathan, saying he would not stop any of his sympathisers and supporters from moving to another political party to pursue their political quests.

In his remarks, a member of the state House of Assembly, Eni Uduma Chima and a former commissioner for information, Dr. Chike Onwe assured Governor Elechi that Ebonyi people are behind him.

“They took the PDP structure from Elechi because he does not give bribe. Those in Abuja are heavy bribe takers but Elechi decided to invest our money in projects in Ebonyi State. They took empty victory from us; they took the empty sack, but we have the grains,” Eni Uduma.
